It's pretty easy to get Lost in Branded to Kill

This week's Lost in Criterion features Seijun Suzuki's masterpiece of Yakuza movie: Branded to Kill. Labelled "incomprehensible" by the studio, who promptly fired the prolific pulp producer, this film basically spawned the Japanese art house movement. It's the weird story of the Number 3 hitman in Japan who gets turned on by smelling rice, has an affair with a woman who likes dead birds, and kills a man through a sink pipe before escaping on a helium balloon.

Am I allowed to think something is brilliant without actually understanding it at all?
