Chasing Amy was probably really liberal in 1997.

But in 2014 it seems more than a little dated.

I'm not a huge fan of Kevin Smith or Ben Affleck, but I'm an especially small fan when it comes to films where Ben Affleck plays Kevin Smith's author avatar while still managing to allow for Smith himself to appear to deliver the film's moral in monologue. There's a lot to unpack in those facts when Smith himself admits the film is autobiographically about his relationship with Joey Lauren Adams who also plays Alyssa, the female lead opposite Affleck. I'd love to unpack it, but mostly it just turns me off to the film entirely. I'm not into watching someone else's therapy sessions.

Anyway, Pat and I do manage to unpack some of our issues with Chasing Amy for this week's episode of Lost in Criterion.
