For some reason the scene of Michael Douglas's character leaving the Supreme Court of Ohio in Stephen Soderbergh's Traffic (2000) are not shot at the Supreme Court of Ohio. This pulled me out of the film because I work in the building at which it was actually shot. Later, Pat gets into the recognizing places game by talking about what parts of Cincinnati those scenes might be. Or might not be. I promise that isn't the bulk of this week's podcast.
Traffic is a beautiful look at the tragedy that is the American War on Drugs. Obviously, that means it's intrinsically political, a fact that had distributers fleeing. Thankfully, USA Films stepped in.
We discuss it on this week's Lost in Criterion.
