A surreal trip through the purported history of witchcraft.

Benjamin Christensen's 1922 surreal "adaptation" of an Inquisitor's guide to identifying medieval witches, Häxan is a ridiculous romp through the fevered mind of a man out to mock the fevered minds of men out to stop devil worshippers, e.g. the homeless, unmarried women, elderly widows, and, I don't know, vegetarians? Exact definitions of witchcraft are hard to come by. Apparently just like good psychiatric methods. We talk about this weird little documentary-esque thing on this week's Lost in Criterion.
