One of our handful of reviews on iTunes -- and feel free to change this -- accuses us of not liking anything outside of “comfortable convention”. Let this episode on the films of Stan Brakhage stand in stark contrast to that posit. Not every film on By Brahkage: An Anthology Vol. 1 works for us, and some of his film philosophies are rather off-putting to Pat, but he brilliantly tries to strip film of everything one would normally consider integral to the medium: many are non-narrative, many are silent or use asynchronous sound, some technically contain no film.
Most of the Brahkage films covered in this anthology are on YouTube, and while watching them on a tiny screen doesn't do them justice, you should check them out. Then listen to Pat and I discuss them on this week's Lost in Criterion.
