Although it is somewhat out of character on this website, I would like to take a moment to discuss Sir Terry Pratchett and his overwhelming brilliance.
In the news today (March 15, 2015), I read of the passing of Pratchett and felt it would be fitting to share my love for his works. For anyone who has not had the pleasure of reading his works, I would recommend taking a moment from your day and picking one of them up. I promise you will not be disappointed. For me, he was the Douglas Adams of fantasy. His comedic writing and powerful satire never ceased to amaze and delight me. Even more impressive, he continued to write and publish books despite his struggle with Alzheimer's. He was and will always be a hero to me and many others.
If you are interested in reading the Discworld books, you really can't go wrong. Each successive book in the collection was more hilarious and delightful than the previous one. In the gallery, I have included a full reading guide taken from The L-Space Web, a Discworld fan site. This chart can be very helpful in navigating the 41 book collection. If you are looking for recommendations, I would suggest "The Watch" series of books. They have always been my personal favorites. They are as follows:
- Guards! Guards! (1989)
- Men at Arms (1993)
- Feet of Clay (1996)
- Jingo (1997)
- The Fifth Elephant (1999)
- Night Watch (2002)
- Thud! (2005)
- Snuff (2011)
I'd like to close by reprinting a final farewell message written by some of his fans as well as the messages written by his daughter on his official twitter account. He will be missed but not forgotten.
